Meet Allison Cowell
I am a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor in the State of Maryland. I am a former school counselor for ten years and have an array of experience in working with children and teens. I believe that having the right tools can help you achieve your goals. I am a white, CIS gendered female. I am an LGBTQIA+ ally and actively working on understanding how my privilege affects oppressed groups.
My Approach to Therapy:
I approach working with clients using a strength based, holistic, and trauma informed lens. I believe clients have innate qualities that can help them achieve their goals but need prompting to help them reach them. By using their strengths it helps me partner with clients to more effectively reach their goals. Once we connect with your strengths we can improve upon them by adding strategies and skills.
I use various strategies to help clients reach their goals including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Trauma informed approaches.
Client’s who work well with me:
√ Clients who are open to new strategies that they haven’t tried before or previous strategies just presented in a different way.
√ Clients who are motivated to come to therapy and see the benefits of coming.
√ Clients willing to do the work in between sessions.
√ Clients who have the supports (like parents) who want them to improve their behaviors or emotions.
My Focus Area’s:
I work with children, teens, families, young adults, and adults.
