About Carli Hill LMSW

I am a Licensed Master Social Worker in the State of Maryland. My previous work in both school and community based settings has granted me experience with clients of all ages, backgrounds, and diagnoses. Since earning my undergraduate degree, I’ve spent three years working at the Annapolis Light House Shelter. As a member of the resource center team, I assisted in providing laundry and shower facilities, food, case management, internet access, and general respite to individuals experiencing homelessness. Furthermore, I engaged in shelter diversion efforts through eviction prevention and rental assistance programs.

Feeling compelled to take on a larger role, I returned to school to pursue a masters degree in social work. This program provided internship experiences, which allowed me to develop and grow my clinical skills. As an Anne Arundel County elementary school social work intern, I facilitated social emotional learning among children ages 3-11 years old. Weekly student groups promoted relationship building among peers. Additionally, individual sessions targeted self-esteem building, coping skill development, and improved emotion regulation. More recently, I served as a clinical intern in a community mental health setting. I provided individual and group therapy to children, adolescents, and adults. Interventions and modalities were to tailored to meet the individual needs of people experiencing anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, difficult life transition, and anger.

My work with clients always stems from a strengths-based, client-centered approach. I’m a big believer in meeting people where they’re at. This means moving at the client’s pace and recognizing that they are the experts in their own lives. I work to support and guide them, as they navigate their own mental health journey. I aim to foster a safe space, which balances fun and professionalism. I use games, videos, books, worksheets, and evidence-based tools and interventions to effectively support various clients and their unique needs.

I recognize what an intimidating process therapy can be. I believe taking the time to establish rapport and build a strong therapeutic relationship is pivotal to any successful work with clients. When beginning the therapeutic process, I like to take the time to process the client’s thoughts about therapy and identify any particular needs or preferences, which will contribute towards creating a safe, productive space. I love using engaging games and ice breakers when approaching work with children. Additionally, I love incorporating humor into my work with all clients, when appropriate.
