Your parents were there for you and supported you but maybe theydidn’t provide the tools you need to take the next steps to ‘adult’. Frequently Asked Questions
I’ve never been in therapy before, what should I expect?
Therapy can be scary if you have never been. Finding a good therapist can be a challenging process as well. Check out this blog on finding a therapist.
Don’t be scared to keep searching until you find the best therapist for you as well. Its important for it to work that you connect and feel that this person can provide you with something beneficial, even if that is just a safe space to talk about your struggles.
I feel like I need someone to tell me what to do, can counseling help with that?
We, therapists in general, never tell clients what to do. That goes against how we are trained, however we do make suggestions and offer resources and tools that could benefit you in this area. We can support your ideas through getting clear on where you want to go and how you want to get there.
Am I the only young adult who struggles so much with being an adult?
Statistically 1 in 3 young adults struggle with their mental health everyday. And many more lack the knowledge, finances, and access to mental health services. Young adults have struggled even more since the pandemic, due to employment and the cost of living.
You may feel alone but we assure you that you are not alone. Seeking counseling is not a sign of weakness, if anything it shows your areas of strength- recognizing that you cannot do this alone is huge.
What if I’m uncomfortable talking about certain topics?
Counseling can go as fast or as slow as you need it to build that comfort level. Young adult counseling is not designed any different in terms of pace or what you share. The biggest difference is that our therapists understand the many unique challenges of our young adults. We believe those topics will eventually surface in therapy when you are ready.
