Workshops & Classes

Learn, Grow, and Build Skills That Support Real Life

Therapy is one powerful way to create change, but it is not the only way people learn, heal, and grow. At Turning Stone Counseling, our workshops and classes are designed to give individuals, couples, parents, families, and helping professionals access to meaningful mental health education in a supportive, practical, and approachable way.

These offerings are created for people who want to better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, support their families, or learn tools they can begin using in everyday life.

Our workshops and classes create space for learning, reflection, skill-building, and connection without the pressure of beginning ongoing therapy.

Why We Offer Workshops and Classes

We believe mental health support should be accessible in more than one format.

Traditional therapy can be deeply helpful, but not everyone needs or wants weekly counseling. Some people are looking for education. Some want structured tools. Some want to explore a topic before deciding what kind of support they need next.

Workshops and classes allow us to offer support in a different way. They give you the opportunity to slow down, learn something meaningful, and walk away with practical strategies you can use in your relationships, parenting, family life, or personal growth.

Our goal is not to overwhelm you with clinical language or generic advice. Our goal is to offer clear, compassionate, research-informed guidance that helps you better understand what is happening and what you can do next. Whether you are attending a couples workshop, a parenting class, a family-focused training, or a personal growth webinar, our hope is that you leave feeling more grounded, more informed, and more equipped.

What You Can Expect

Our workshops and classes are designed to be welcoming, engaging, and practical.

Depending on the offering, you may be invited to reflect, discuss, complete guided exercises, or practice new tools. Some workshops may be more educational, while others may include worksheets, breakout reflection, partner conversations, or at-home practice.

You do not need to have everything figured out before attending. You do not need to be in crisis. You do not need to be a current client at Turning Stone Counseling.

You simply need a willingness to learn and engage with the material in a way that feels meaningful for you. Our workshops are not a replacement for therapy, and they are not designed to diagnose or treat a specific mental health condition. Instead, they are educational and skill-building opportunities that can support growth, awareness, and change.

For some participants, a workshop may be enough. For others, it may help clarify that individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, or parent support would be helpful next.

Workshops Are Not Therapy

It is important to understand that workshops and classes are educational services. They are not psychotherapy, counseling, or crisis support. Attending a workshop does not establish a therapist-client relationship with Turning Stone Counseling or the presenter.

Workshops do not include individualized diagnosis, treatment planning, clinical assessment, or ongoing therapeutic care.If you are experiencing significant distress, safety concerns, relationship crisis, or symptoms that are interfering with daily life, individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, or another clinical service may be a better fit.

We are happy to help you explore whether therapy or a workshop is the right next step.

Frequently Asked Questions About Workshops and Classes

It is normal to have questions before signing up for a workshop or class. You may be wondering if the offering is right for you, whether you need to be in therapy, what the format will feel like, or how to know which class best fits your needs.

We answer some of the most common questions about our workshops and classes so you can better understand what to expect and decide what kind of support feels like the right next step.

No. Our workshops and classes are educational and skill-building experiences. They are not therapy, counseling, or crisis support. Attending a workshop does not create a therapist-client relationship with Turning Stone Counseling or the presenter.

Workshops can be a helpful way to learn tools, reflect on patterns, and explore whether additional support may be useful. If you need individualized assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, or ongoing support, therapy may be a better fit.

No. Many of our workshops and classes are open to community members, couples, parents, families, and professionals who are not current clients at Turning Stone Counseling.

Some offerings may be designed for specific groups, such as couples, parents, or helping professionals. Each workshop page will explain who the class is designed for and whether there are any eligibility requirements.

Our offerings may include couples workshops, parent education classes, family support workshops, personal growth classes, professional trainings, webinars, and community education events.

Examples may include Gottman Seven Principles couples workshops, Parenting the Love and Logic Way™ classes, SPACE-informed parent workshops, personal growth workshops, and professional growth opportunities.

Workshop formats may vary. Some classes may be offered in person in Maryland, while others may be offered virtually. Some may be one-time workshops, and others may be multi-session series.

Each workshop listing will include the format, dates, location or virtual access information, cost, and registration details.

Yes. Workshops can be a helpful first step if you are not sure whether therapy is needed. They can give you education, tools, and language to better understand what you are experiencing.

For some people, a workshop provides enough support for the moment. For others, it helps clarify that individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, or parent support would be helpful next.

Yes, but it depends on the level of distress and the type of struggle. Couples workshops can be helpful for communication, connection, conflict patterns, and strengthening the relationship.

However, if there is active emotional or physical abuse, safety concerns, severe relationship crisis, ongoing betrayal trauma, or one partner is unsure about staying in the relationship, couples therapy may be a more appropriate starting point than a workshop.

Yes. Many parent-focused workshops are designed specifically for parents and caregivers. In fact, some approaches, such as SPACE-informed education and Parenting the Love and Logic Way™, focus on helping parents shift their own responses, reduce unhelpful patterns, and build more effective tools at home.

Each workshop page will explain whether children, teens, adult children, partners, or other family members should attend.

A good place to start is by choosing the topic that best matches your current goal.

If you want to strengthen your relationship, a couples workshop may be a good fit. If you are navigating anxiety, avoidance, or accommodation in your family, a SPACE-informed parent workshop may be helpful. If you want practical parenting tools, Parenting the Love and Logic Way™ may be a good option. If you are exploring values, meaning, or life direction, a personal growth workshop may be a better fit.

When registration is open, each workshop will have its own landing page with details about the topic, schedule, format, cost, and registration process.

If registration is not currently open, you can join the interest list to be notified when upcoming workshops become available.
